Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 19, 2026

At Online Notepad, your privacy is our priority. By default, we operate on a "Client-Side First" architecture, storing your notes entirely within your browser. For users who need access across multiple devices, we also offer an optional, highly secure Cloud Sync feature.

1. Data Collection & Storage

How your notes are stored depends entirely on how you choose to use the application:

  • Local Storage (Default): If you use the app without signing in, your text is saved locally to your device's localStorage. We do not operate a backend database for local users, and your keystrokes are never transmitted to any server.
  • Cloud Sync (Optional): If you choose to sign in to unlock Cloud Sync and Premium PDF Export, your notes are securely transmitted and stored in our cloud database (powered by Google Firebase) so you can access them across your devices.
  • Files: Text files you upload into the editor are processed instantly in your browser memory and are not uploaded to a remote server.

2. Authentication & Account Data

To enable Cloud Sync and PDF Downloads, we use Google Authentication. When you choose to sign in:

  • We receive basic profile information (such as your Name, Email, and Profile Picture) strictly to create your account and provide the synchronization service.
  • We never post on your behalf, and we do not sell, rent, or share your personal account data with third parties.

3. Cookies & Third-Party Technologies

To maintain the site and provide essential features, we use standard third-party services:

  • Authentication: Google Firebase uses secure tokens (similar to cookies) to keep you logged in securely across sessions.
  • Analytics: We may use aggregated, anonymized tools (like Google Analytics) to understand website traffic. These tools do not have access to the content of your notes.
  • Advertising: Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings.

4. Note Sharing & Links

If you use the "Share Note" feature, the application encodes your text directly into a URL parameter. This URL contains the data itself; we do not store a separate copy of shared notes on our servers. Anyone with access to that specific, generated link can view the content encoded within it.

5. Data Deletion & Control

You maintain full control over your data:

  • Local Users: Clearing your browser's cache or "Local Storage" will permanently delete your offline notes. We cannot recover this lost data as we do not hold a backup.
  • Cloud Users: You can delete any synced note directly from the sidebar within the app, which instantly removes it from our cloud database.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to comply with legal or operational requirements, or to reflect new features. Continued use of the tool constitutes acceptance of these changes.
